October 29th 2017

Joe Rizzuto would like to let everyone know that the dates for 2019 SHI tournament hosted by Grandravine Tornadoes are March 27, 2019 to March 30, 2019 and that more information will be provided as they move forward with the tournament planning.

Hello SHI Member Clubs!

We hope this email finds you all well and enjoying the best of the summer season! Although many of us are on a break from ice hockey right now, we know much planning for next season is already taking place and we'd like to let you know about a few exciting options for 2017-2018!

SHI will not be hosting a tournament of its own in 2018 but we are working closely with two significant organizations which include special hockey in their major tournaments! With that in mind, we have these excellent events for you to consider being a part of:

  1. Bell Capital Cup being held in Ottawa, ON on Dec. 28 & 29, 2017.

  • The Bell Capital Cup is a premier international event and the addition of special hockey is quite something! The organizers of the BCC believe in the importance of special hockey around the world and are thrilled to be a part of exposing young people and their coaches to our teams during the week long event.

  • For those of us in Canada, the BCC is strongly affiliated with Hockey Canada, and when we take advantage of an event like this (ex. adding special hockey to an existing regular tournament), we show the BCC and Hockey Canada that we appreciate and support their recognition and inclusion.

  • All NGB-affiliated SHI teams are welcome to attend.

  • Each team will have 4 games over the course of the 2 days, and all participants receive medals

  • There will be an end of tournament banquet at The Brookstreet Hotel in Kanata on the evening of Dec. 29th, more info to come shortly (tickets should be approx. $35 per person)

  • We are also working on a few more exciting additions such as an outdoor skate at Ottawa City Hall on the famous "Rink of Dreams" and we're hoping to rent a movie theater and provide a pizza and movie night!

  • For any team outside Canada, the BCC offers an "International Liaison" who will be more than happy to help you with any travel and accommodation needs. Please contact Scott Lawryk directly to be put in touch with the right folks!

  1. USA Disabled Hockey Festival at the Leaf's Ice Centre in West Dundee, IL (just outside
    Chicago) April 5-8, 2018.

  • This is USA Disabled Hockey's large annual event and brings together many different divisions: special, blind, deaf, warrior (amputee) and sledge!

  • All NGB-affiliated SHI teams are welcome to attend.

  • Each team will have 4 games over the course of the 4 days and every participant is a champion!

  • There will be an excellent optional social event on one evening during the tournament (details TBD)

  • This tournament is another great opportunity to strengthen special hockey ties with USA Hockey and we strongly encourage you to consider this terrific tournament for 2018!

  • Registration is not yet available online, but visit this web page for more info: USA Disabled Hockey Festival 2018
